It’s nitpicky, yes, but it bothers me a bit. I will say that with some of the larger black areas on the pages, the ink is a bit spotty and grainy rather than being the same value all the way through. (Personally, I feel it’s not quite as cozy as the warm off-white of most manga paper, but I guess I’m just sentimental.) The paper is also a very bright white, which gives it a clean, crisp black-and-white look. Even though the paper is very smooth compared to normal manga paper, it’s not that super smooth, CD booklet kind of paper where you feel like you have to read it while wearing rubber gloves because even the slightest skin oil will leave a mark… I feel like I can actually touch this book, which is nice. On the inside, rather than being printed on the standard newsprint-y paper used for most manga, it’s actually printed on a heavy, smooth paper like you might find in an art book. …And roughly the same size as other special edition manga printed by Viz. Perspective makes them look staggered, but they’re not.) (These are all lined up at the corner, btw. As you can see, it’s a decent increase in size compared to other editions of the manga, with about a 5/8″ page size increase from the standard English edition… The cover, as you can see from the photos, features new art (well, “new” for English editions, anyway It’s the same as Japan’s kanzenban editions), a metallic finish on some of the text and logos, and although it’s mostly matte finish, the back has a transmutation circle in a glossy finish, adding a cool textured look.Īs far as size goes, it’s the same size as most kanzenban manga in Japan. The quality is actually some of the nicest I’ve ever seen for a manga before. Please forgive my nail polish also), so I’m going to put it under a cut for the sake of not putting an absurdly long post on everyone’s dashes. I will also include lots of photos (and I apologize for the quality of them, I took them on my floor with my phone. My copy of FMA Fullmetal Edition volume 1 (Viz Media’s new hardcover edition of the FMA manga, with an updated translation) arrived in the mail today, so I thought I’d write a review! I’ll break it down into four parts: Print quality, contents, text, and price. Fullmetal Alchemist: Fullmetal Edition Review
